As autonomy increases, the safety net has to grow with it. The guard agent flags anomalies, drift and ethical concerns in real time — quietly, until something needs a human.
Guard agents are the immune system of the Symbiosis framework. They monitor for: violation of abort conditions, compliance drift (like the WCAG example), cost overruns, quality degradation, security vulnerabilities, and ethical boundary crossings.
They report to the Integrity Steward and can trigger automatic stops when hard boundaries are crossed. The discipline is in calibrating guard agents to be sensitive enough to catch real risks but not so noisy that humans start ignoring their alerts.
